Reuben Ogbonna & Maya Battacharjee-MarcantonioExecutive Director, The Marcy Lab School, Brooklyn, New York

The Marcy Lab School helps young people accelerate their careers. Our yearlong college alternative provides young adults from underestimated backgrounds with the skills, the habits, and the network necessary to launch a rewarding, purpose-driven career in the tech sector.

Reuben Ogbonna is Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Marcy Lab School. For the past seven years, Reuben has served low-income students of color as a math teacher, school leader, and leadership coach. During the summer of 2015, he served as a Teaching Fellow at the Flatiron School. In this role, Reuben taught introductory web development courses for high school students with little to no prior experience in computer science. Reuben believes in the innate ingenuity of young people and their ability to source solutions to their own problems if given the proper tools.

Maya Battacharjee-Marcantonio is Co-Founder and Chief Program Officer of the Marcy Lab School. She has devoted her career to centering and uplifting students throughout New York. She started her career on Marcy Avenue as an English teacher and instructional coach at Leadership Prep Bedford Stuyvesant Academy. Since then, she has served as a Director of School Culture, a literacy curriculum specialist, and most recently, a Program Director at Teach For America. In 2018, Maya was selected for the HELM Social Design Studio Fellowship, traveling to Ethiopia to advocate for the rights of migrant youth and women.
